DroidDeck vs Winlator vs Mobox vs Steam Link: Best Way to Play PC Games on Android (2026)

There are now several ways to play PC games on an Android phone or handheld. DroidDeck, Winlator, Mobox and Steam Link are the names you will see most, but they solve the problem in completely different ways. This comparison explains how each one works and which one fits you best.

How Each One Works

  • DroidDeck runs Valve’s native Linux ARM64 Steam client on the device, in Big Picture mode, inside a gamescope Vulkan compositor. Windows games run through Valve’s ARM64 Proton, with FEX-Emu for x86 translation and DXVK for DirectX-to-Vulkan.
  • Winlator runs Windows programs on Android through Wine and x86 translation, inside a Windows-style desktop. You install games manually from their installers.
  • Mobox follows a similar Wine-based approach but runs inside the Termux terminal environment, which takes more setup.
  • Steam Link does not run games on the phone at all: it streams them from a gaming PC on your network. Moonlight works the same way with NVIDIA GameStream/Sunshine hosts.

DroidDeck

Best for: Snapdragon handhelds and flagship phones where you want a real Steam Deck-style experience.

DroidDeck’s advantage is that the Steam client itself runs natively on ARM64, so you get the real Big Picture interface, your library, downloads, Steam Cloud saves and achievements, all offline once games are installed. It also includes a controller and gyro editor, a Linux desktop with ARM64 emulators and a dual screen companion mode. It is free and open-source (GPL-3.0).

Limitations: it needs a Snapdragon device with an Adreno 730 or newer GPU, version 0.3.1 is still young, and game compatibility depends on Proton and your hardware.

Winlator and Mobox

Best for: running individual Windows games or programs, including on devices that DroidDeck does not support.

Winlator and Mobox work on a wider range of hardware and let you run Windows installers directly. The trade-offs are a Windows desktop interface that is less comfortable with a gamepad, more manual configuration per game, and no Steam client sync for cloud saves and achievements. Mobox in particular requires working inside Termux.

Best for: people who already own a gaming PC and play at home.

Steam Link gives you the best graphics, because the PC does the heavy work, and it works on almost any phone. But it needs the PC turned on and a strong network, adds some input latency, and does not work offline when you travel.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • You have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or newer handheld or phone and want to play your Steam library anywhere: DroidDeck.
  • Your device is not supported by DroidDeck, or you want to run Windows programs outside Steam: Winlator (or Mobox if you are comfortable with Termux).
  • You have a gaming PC and mostly play at home: Steam Link or Moonlight.

Many players combine them: DroidDeck for offline play on the go and Steam Link for heavier games at home.

FAQ

Is DroidDeck better than Winlator?

For Steam games on a supported Snapdragon device, DroidDeck offers a more console-like experience with native Steam sync. Winlator supports more devices and non-Steam Windows programs.

Do I need a PC to use DroidDeck?

No. Games run on the device itself. You only need a PC for Steam Link or Moonlight.

Are these apps free?

DroidDeck, Winlator, Mobox and Steam Link are all free to use. You still need to own the games you play.
