9Apps

9Apps is a lightweight alternative store: the current APK (version 4.0.5.1) is only 7.6 MB and runs on Android 4.1 or later, which makes it a good fit for older or entry-level phones. Apps and games are organized by category, and the store also offers wallpapers and ringtones.

Pros: small, easy to use, works on old Android versions. Cons: apps are not reviewed by Google, and you should pay attention to ads and permissions.

Aptoide

Aptoide is one of the oldest alternative stores. Its main difference is the decentralized model: besides the main catalog, users and developers can create their own stores. That makes the catalog enormous and useful for finding apps removed from Google Play, but quality varies from store to store.

Pros: very large catalog, community stores, apps that disappeared from other stores. Cons: more variation in quality, so it is important to check the security labels and the store an app comes from.

APKPure

APKPure works mainly as a mirror of the free apps published on Google Play. It is a common choice for installing apps that are not available in your country or on devices without Google services. It also installs XAPK files, the split packages used by large games.

Pros: interface similar to Google Play, apps from other regions, XAPK installer. Cons: focused on free apps that are already on Google Play, so it has fewer exclusive apps.

Which One Should You Choose?

• Choose 9Apps if you want a light and simple store, especially on an older phone.
• Choose Aptoide if you are looking for rare apps or apps that were removed from other stores.
• Choose APKPure if you want regular Google Play apps on a phone without Google Play or apps blocked in your region.

Bonus: Uptodown is another good option if you need previous versions of an app.

Safety Tips for Any Alternative Store

No third-party store is risk-free, because apps are not reviewed by Google. Whatever store you choose: keep Google Play Protect on, check the permissions each app asks for, avoid modified versions of apps where you log in, and never install banking apps from outside Google Play.
